Welcome to jazzCenter. If you are a Jazz fan, answer this question: Have you ever sat and watched a Jazz game on National television and realized that the team the Jazz are playing, no matter who it is, is getting a lot of recognition and publicity? If so, then this site is for you. This will be a place for you to show your pride as a Jazz fan, and express frustrations and excitement for the team. As a follower you can send in pictures, take polls each week, throw out ideas about what the Jazz should do for the future. This will be a site to hopefully give the Jazz, a small market team in the NBA, the recognition they deserve. I hope you will also share this site with others who you know who are fans of the Utah Jazz.

Sports Radio 1280 the Zone

Yesterday I called into Sports Radio 1280 the Zone. This was around 4:30 pm during the Gordon Monson show. The topic was about what the Utah Jazz should do as far as making a trade or signing. For the first 30 minutes pretty much everone was either calling in or texting about how the Jazz need to try and get Jimmer. I personally don't think the Kings would ever give him up, but I have been wrong before. Since the Paul Westphal firing, and the hiring of Keith Smart, Jimmer has taken a back seat to everyone on the Kings roster. I guess Keith Smart likes players who only want to play 1 on 1. With so many calls and text messaging into the show, I decided to call in. I wanted to give my thoughts on what the Jazz should do. Note: they cut my call off before I could give my 3rd suggestion. My suggestions were the following:

1- I mentioned that Jazz, however they could do it, should go after OJ Mayo from Memphis. It seems like every year he is on the trading blocks 3-4 times a year. Once again, he's on the Grizzly's list to look for a trade.I feel he would be a good for for a few reasons. I know his numbers are down, but it's got to be difficult to play with Rudy Gay and Zack Randolph. I think he would thrive more with a more structured offense, and with Al Jefferson getting doubled teamed a lot as well. He's also much younger than Raja Bell and much more athletic. In college he played the point at USC and he has played that role quite a bit in the NBA as well, so he could be a combo guard for the Jazz.

2-The Jazz should just keep what they have and go the rest of the season with this roster. It's a win win situation. If we make the playoffs, then they surpassed everyone's expectation. If they Don't then they still could possibly hold 2 lottery picks (Golden State's protected draft). Then for next season, the Jazz should look to replace Devin Harris and go get Aaron Brooks. He currently is playing in China, but is a free agent and the end of this season. When he was in Houston, he did everything we are looking for. He can score, shoot, break down defenses, and can actually finish at the rim. He can open up the floor for our current and soon to be shooters.

3- This is where they cut my call off short. I wanted to mention how the Jazz should go get Stephen Jackson. I think he would fit well because he can score, shoot the 3, and his personality would fit well. He doesn't take crap from anyone and has a nasty side, which the Jazz need. If this doesn't happen then the Jazz, after this season, need to go sign Ray Allen to a 2 year deal. He is the ideal person, and if they were to do that, I would be a season ticket holder. Obviously my call to the show was before the signing of DeMare Carroll. Another forward for the Jazz. Since we all know the Jazz biggest need is a 2 guard and a Point guard. So we know a trade is coming. What do you think is going to happen? Any scenarios? Let me know what you think the Jazz should do or what you think will happen?

  1. The jazz need someone who can create. They need someone who can space the floor. OJ Mayo can do that. We've got great bigs and zero play from the 1 & 2. Earl shows flashes, Devin Harris as well. But the lack of consistency demands some movement on the roster. I hope the youth can progress under Corbin. We'll see. But I like our future... One player away from Being a very well rounded team.

  3. I had no idea you listened to the Zone Jess, let alone got on air with Jake and Gordon Monson. I've read in one of your posts that you also listen to 1320 K-fan. Here's an idea for a future post topic. You should write about the local sports talk radio market in Utah and which station you prefer listening to as it pertains to Jazz coverage. I think it would make for a very good post. I personally like 1280 much better than the "homer" station. What do you think?

    1. John, who are you? I have an Idea, but just want to be sure. I like the idea of the 2 different radio shows, but I love listening to Gordon Monson. I just like to turn the channel when the BYU talk come about. I could care less about that.
